From the people at LS1 tech...

This bill becomes law effective immediately.

NOW LEGAL tint combinations.
1. Up to 35% in the Rear/up to 35% front
2. 35-30% in the rear/up to 50% front
3. IF YOU HAVE BELOW 30% TINT IN THE REAR, YOU CAN NOT HAVE FRONT TINT If you have an MPV, which include but are not limited to, SUVs, Station Wagons, minivans, Toasters, etc., and said MPV has factory installed privacy glass (smoked), you are allowed to have up to 50% tint in front.

About time.

The old tint law was the reason I never had the Monte Carlo tinted until recently. I figure it would have looked stupid with tint on the back glass and the rear windows and nothing on the front.

I wonder if they'll bother me when I'm there next summer.

They generally don't bother out of state plates. There are a few Chicago suburbs with overzealous police (namely Naperville), that will bother you for anything because they have nothing better to do.

Nice they changed the law but is there a way they can tell the % of the tint. If I get 30% all around how will they know.

down here they shine a light through your window, if a certain percentage doesn't come out the other end you get a ticket.

I'm planning on doing 15-20% all around still though...

Eh you figure compared to Indiana, our license plates are quite reasonable. As far as the front plate goes, it is a lot better for many people as well as police to see the license plate if they backed into a parking spot.

But with this new tint law, i may consider getting tint now.

Hopefully they'll do the same here in Michigan.

Funny you say that because I had a run in with them in that area a few years ago for a car show in the area. 4-5 of us in 3 cars were crusing around and got stuck in stop and go traffic for a bad wreck on the highway. We take the next exit to stop at a gas station probably 12-1am for a quick break and grab some sodas. All of us walk out of the store and a cop asks us for our ID's. We're all from different states which dumbfounded the officer. Get asked 20 questions, even had another cruiser show up but eventually let us go on our way.

It's mainly an excuse for the cops to have a reason to stop people. A few years ago I wrote (way before internet was as "efficient" as it is now Laughing ) to one plate only states and asking them if they had a problem with having only one tag (I hate front plates). All of them had either no problems regarding stolen cars, etc. and the only ones that mentioned a problem was Kentucky where they said a second tag would be a help, yet that state never had had front ones. Alabama told me they used to have fronts, but got rid of them years ago do to costs. Arkansas said they have never had a problem with only one tag as they are geared towards dealing with one plate only.

Deleware: never had front tags
Indiana: Got rid of them in the 1950s(?)
Michigan: Gone in '88
WV: never had 'em
PA: gone in '50s
KY: never had them
Kansas: gone in the 70's
AZ: gone in the '80s
FL: never had them
AL: got rid of in 60's or 70's(?)
MS: never had them(?)
NM: never had them
OK: gone in the 40's
AR: never had them
NC:gone in the 60's/70's
LA: Never had them(?)
TN got rid of in Mid 70's
SC: gone in '70s

It's messed up that alot of 2 tag states piss and moan about not having any money, Boo Hoo then still insist on not making the cops mad by still having front tags. No No No Bow I've seen ALOT of silver/grey impalas, but I'd bet soon after one got stolen there would be a different plates on it anyway, so why they big deal to have 2 I wonder? Confused2
