2000 Chevrolet Impala

PostPosted: Tue Nov 10, 2009 5:14 pm    Post subject: Beark ! OMG! What a nightmare... Reply with quote

Hey guys... I just wanted to throw this out there, and see if anyone can hit it back to me. My lovely 2000 Impala LS has been a true warrior at over 246,000 and still running like a champ... Something happened this past Sunday morning that really stinks to say the least! I had planned on picking up a few business partners and take them out to lunch... It had rained all day Saturday, and I was out driving most of the time. I open the door to my Impala on Sunday morning to be hit with a green mist of disgusting and almost unbearable stench that made my eyes water... I was mortified as I was scheduled to pick up the three men in 15 minutes!!!! I attempted to spray the car down with cologne, but it only made the horrible smell worse and by the time I arrived for my first pick up it was horrendous. I have NEVER been so embarrassed in my life, and would like to know why on earth that would happen? The car smelled like a sewage plant without exaggeration......

FYI... I take 2-3 showers daily, so I know it ain't me!!!!!!

Ever use the car to get groceries or anything? Perhaps a pack of old hot dogs is decaying under your seat. Shocked

So the whole car was filled with this green mist or did it come from like the door sills or something. Unless you can compare the smell to something I highly doubt it was anything with your car. Moldy carpet maybe? Check your cabin air filter too... maybe something crawled in there and died? i dunno...

When a Skunk died (or sprayed) somewhere near my parking spot, it took almost a week for the smell in the car to go away.

Maybe there is something under the front seats, also I would suggest you to check the passenger side carpet as well, if the carpet is wet probably you need a new heather core.

Have you driven through any big puddles recently? A few weeks ago we had a bad storm here and there was lots of street flooding. I had to drive home from my friends house during the flooding, the next morning I got into my car there was a 2 inch deep puddle of water on the passenger side floor. At first I thought my friend had left the window open overnight but it was closed. Apparently the water came in through the door sill. It smelled disgusting, like a wet dog. Hope this helps

I've seen it a few times but in house carpet, but the same problems. Its probably all the stuff built up over the years and it finally got wet. Now theres mold growing and the stuff stinks and isn't healthy to breath in either. One thing would be to take out the carpet and clean it and let it sit in the sun for a day. Make sure its 100% dry before putting it back in. Something quicker might be to take it to a shop and have them clean it. I would buy about 10 arm and hammer "frig box thingys" either way. Your my new hero though, nice to hear my Impy might make it past 250,000 miles.

May be time to change the cabin air filter. Mines had a stanky mildew smell that would enter the car while driving before I changed it. Once changed, everything was everything! You should've seen how nasty it looked.

What is the reason for this? What are you doing were you need to shower this much daily?

Maybe he's really sweaty? Laughing

I also am curious, a physical green mist? That is a new one in my book.

LOL! I was actually being humorous by saying it had a GREEN MIST... The smell resemblesd a swamp setting, so I used that terminology. I have no idea where the cabin filter is, but with over 247,000 on my car maybe it is due for a change? I did drive through a hellacious rain storm the night prior to the car smelling horrible so maybe that had something to do with it? It rained two days ago while driving home, and the smell returned again the foillowing day.................................
