I had mentioned that i was having my car sent to the shop for some work this past Saturday.Well the work has been done and i feel alot better now.

Had both upper and lower intake manifold gaskets replaced, along with a good coolent system flush.

The guy told me it was a good thing i had them done now.He showed me my old gaskets and showed me were they were starting to blow out.He said if i had waited any longer i would have had coolent getting into my motor oil....

Like i had told you guys, when i seen sludge on my radiator cap,i knew something was not right.I got lucky though,i noticed a slight problem before it got worse. So many people i know don't even look or think about their vehicle. They just turn the key and go.....

I also thought i had a ISS problem,he informs me it is indeed my front drivers strut.Said it was something with the strut bearing.I also hear the strut "click" when i go over bumps. The BANG and POP have seemed to get worse and worse the more i have drove the car.I have noticed when looking at the strut that the big rubber ring is all c*ckeyed. The ring on the other strut looks fine.

So next on my list is to replace both front struts and ALL tierods just for good meshure....

Your all set now. Did the coolant flush lower or even raise your overall engine temps at all? I also thought you were going to put HD struts,I thing you said, on there anyways.

how much does a shop typically charge to replace the upper and lower intake manifold gaskets??? I'm taking my car to the dealership tomorrow for a "popping" noise coming from the front of the car. It happens when I accelerate, hit a bump, or break. It's so annoying. Evil or Very Mad

They used to charge $650 to do the LIM on a 3x00 motor in Michigan.. I havent checked here in Oklahoma but I would imagine its about the same.

Honestly my temp gage seems to be the same as before. If anything it seems to take a tad bit longer for the car to warm up.

Oddly the idel seems to be slightly smoother and performance also seems to be slightly better than before.

Yes Police/Taxi struts and tierods will be next. After that the car will pretty much be 100% turn key and go.

that doesn't even cover parts on the 3.8, 3.4 is a little cheaper in parts but still that mechanic aint making no money.

Danny_9c1- I had a popping noise as well. I thought it was the ISS or my struts too. I took it to the dealership two days ago and they told me it was the engine mount on the cradle. They had to tighten it and torque it back down. Problem solved.

Gaskets: $85
Oil/Filter: $40
Dexcool: $15

Labor $60? I wouldnt do it for $60! I used to charge $350 + parts to do it.

It cost me $300 for both manifold gaskets and a coolent system flush, not to shabby.

This was done at your basic mom and pop shop.

I don't know if I could really trust my car with the local auto shops around here. The dealership would be the only place I would trust.

^I agree,if i had my way about it i would have also gone to my local GM dealer to have the work done. However i know it would have cost me alot more.

I used to have a guy i worked with who did ALL the work to my cars. However he is dealing with cancer and is not doing much of anything these days Crying or Very sad He was very anal about his work and he was very cheap w/ labor cost...He was also very quick,he did not mess around.I mean you could drop your car off and he would call you a few hours later telling you it was all done.

I also like to offer my business to good people who could really use the money vs the GM dealer....

The guy i had do the work to my car did a very good job.So i can't really complain.

Not sure if i am gonna have him do my struts as he told me he would have to tear my whole front end apart to do it.I was like "WTF"?? just to replace front struts? I would be buying the struts myself, they would also be complete, strut and springs....
