Knowing the LIM fails in these cars and not knowing the history I decided to replace the LIM before it became a problem since i could smell a faint hint of antifreeze after driving the car..

While I had it apart i took the opportunity to sand blast the UIM, and Valve Covers and paint them - nothing fancy i just didnt want to put them back in bare..

Boy was I glad I changed them! Not only had they shrunk but one was BROKE, leaking coolant out the passenger side of the motor!

Heres some pics.

Failed Gaskets

New Aluminum Gaskets

Finished Product

I wasnt able to start it until about 8pm last night and finished up about 2am. Ill see if i cant get some daytime pics later as well as a pic of the broken gasket.

That looks good. I like your choice in paint. It's not some obnoxious color like bright red or neon green. Very subtle and looks great.

Did you primer before you painted? I used primer on mine but as I read the can (afterward of course) it was only rated to about 200*. I am now anticipating issues with paint peeling.

Wow the paint job makes it look real clean. Are those the new and improved intake gaskets?

As long as it doesn't start hemorrhaging oil and coolant you will be better off than I was. When mine decided it was time to go, I was driving back to Nashville on a Saturday night. Between Indianapolis and Louisville when I filled up, I was down a full quart of oil and the coolant reservoir was dry. I limped it the 200ish miles back to Nashville and to the dealer the following Monday. It wouldn't have made it much further.

Its 2 layers 500 degree engine primer, the granite (which has no heat rating Shocked ) and 2 layers 500 degree engine clear coat.

Sand blasting makes painting soooo easy Wink

These are the felpro gaskets. As far as i know they are the latest design. I was pretty shocked how heavy gauge of aluminum they used. If I had engineered them I woulda used 1/2 as thick aluminum... but im not complaining!

Yeah mane, had to get them done in the Alero after 85,000 miles. Didn't do anything to the manifold but looking at the job you did on yours, I have to give you propers. Good job dude.

Im really happy with the way it turned out. All I want all the mods I do to this car to be very subtle and probably wont even be noticed by a non-enthuiast.

Just one more pic. of the engine, until I do some more Razz I want to get out today and wheel/buff it out but life calls so we will see.
