Yep. I'm working on it.
This is not a stock L67 replacement that I'm putting in. You probably could pull off that swap for a little under $2000. But I want a performer.
To build a high performance 3800 Supercharged engine and swap it into a 3.4 Liter Base Impala. And hopefully not break the bank. And prove I'm not crazy and this can be done.
3.8 Liter Supercharged Engine with an L26 block and L67 heads.
1.9 Ratio Rockers
LS6 Valve Springs
Heads Ported and Polished
Braided Steel Fuel Lines with AN Fittings
L32 Fuel Rails refitted for AN lines and a return
Braided Steel Trans and Power Steering Lines
Possibly an intercooler down the line, but I want to verify the build works first.
TEP 3.29HD Trans Rebuild
Here's where I'm at so far:
I grabbed a 1000 mile L26 engine out of the yard from a 2007 Buick Lucerne. Excellent condition. Water pump was seized from coolant being left inside it for a good while, but all of the water jackets internally look clear.
Used dhat's truck to take the motor over to DLS's house. The guy that put it in at the yard used a forklift to put it in. Since we didn't have enough clearance to pull it out with a cherry picker as is, we had to pull the intake off of it while it was in the truck.
On the stand:
1000 miles of crap gas...
You can still see the honing marks from the factory build. Very fresh engine.
Anyone looking for a set of 1000 mile L26 Heads and PRs? PM me.
Oil pan was gashed when they set it on the ground to get it with the forklift...a-holes. But all the metal was accounted for and I have a replacement pan.
Engine Cost: $580
Got a Northstar Throttlebody instead of an L36/67 TB. I'm having a new inlet fabbed to get rid of that plastic thing with the big gaping hole for a MAF.
TB Cost: $30
Purchase a ZZP Ported Rear Manifold and Plog used from someone on Clubgp. No cracks and looks barely used. They be getting recoated before installation. I'll be using the stock crossover since there's really no benefit to getting a ZZP one.
Exhaust Manifold Cost: $160 Shipped
Bought a PCM from Sabre and Coolant Elbows from ZSPOT (never can have enough of those). Thanks to both of you guys for that.
Cost: About $45 shipped.
Now for the goodies:
Yep...you're not hallucinating. Yella Terra rockers. 1.9 ratio. And LS6 Medium Load Valve Springs.
Cost: $399 for the rockers. $38 for the springs.
Found an HD trans to send to TEP Dave for a rebuild. Supposedly has less than 30,000 miles. (Couldn't verify since I wasn't there when it was pulled). But the trans fluid in the TC was VERY clean. So I'm hopeful.
Trans Cost: $245 shipped
I bought Todd from Intense's old Bonnie SSEI heads off of him. No cracks and everything looks good. Sending it to the machine shop next week for inspection, then a port, polish and hot tank. I'll take some pics later.
Cradle is bought. Will take pics before I send it out for sandblasting.
I'm getting my Supercharger Friday. GenV Blower, plus a ported LIM and L32 fuel rails which will be modded for AN lines.
***UPDATE*** Oct. 30th
Picked up the Supercharger today for $350 in Flint. Bearings are good. Needs some cleanup though. I'll post the cleanup soon.
Pardon the quality, it's my cell phone camera.
Here's a quick pic of the heads I got from Todd last week, I'll take more before I send them to the shop.
Got my new TB inlet back from Evil Tom. Did a beautiful job on it. Deleted the MAF port and gave me a three inch inlet, which is just a bit smaller than the 78mm inlets that are advertised all over the place. I'm looking into seeing if I need to port the body or not.
Way better than this ugly thing, eh?
Heads are in the shop and have been hot tanked. Found a very minute crack in between the valve guides on one of the cylinders, but the machinist thinks that can be polished out. I'm also having all of the valve guides replaced. They don't all need it, but I figure if a couple do, then just get them all done. Plus, with the stock guides coming out, I can have the valve guide bosses in the chamber ground down for some additional porting.
After measuring out the valves on the L26 heads, I decided to go with those on my L67 heads. (1000 mile valves...why not?) So I dropped them off to Gary at Leitch performance so he can grind the seats.
Picking up the heads tomorrow from Leitch to send over to my buddy Schlodes for port and poliish. Got some goodies in from Intense today. More on the way soon.
Heads are in from Leitch Performance. My PnP guy will be picking them up this week. But thought I'd post up the pics of how they're coming along so far:
Hot tanked, sandblasted, and new valve guides. Do they look like 60,000 mile heads to you guys? After the PnP, valve seats get ground to take the L26 valves.
Aaaaaaand I put on the Intense sticker.
Since I have some time to kill while I'm waiting for the heads to get PnP'd, I figured I'd pick up a side project.
Took some new pics of the heads after the PnP. Tell me what you think:
Heads are going back to Leitch Performance to get resurfaced, valve seats ground and back cut, and assembled this week. I'll probably have them back week after next.
Adding Schlodes original pics.
In the meantime, I'm waiting for my tax return to come in so I can get the L67 harness and GMPP exhaust (my boss is going to hate me when that shipment comes in. ). Then I've got to pick up injectors.
Picking up miscellaneous gaskets this week and I'll be doing some more work on the supercharger. Lots and lots to do yet, but we're getting closer!
Good luck with the project. Look forward to seeing it complete.

It's hard to find retards of this quality in such masses. It's truly amazing.
