Not sure where to post this so if someone wants to move it go ahead..

2003 Impala LS.
207,000 miles.

The A/C still works, but barely. I checked the compressor and it turns out just as it should, I could hear the distinct click when the button is pressed. It cools but nothing like it used to. I guess this summer was the last time it worked. Started turning it on again because nature has decided to get back up to 80 degrees around here. Recently I noticed a bit of noise coming out of the fans (I think that's the area) when it's on, it's not really noticeable unless you know exactly what you are listening for. Hardly any cooling power is found in the AC, the air comes out colder than the outside but its not chilly.

So where should i start on fixing this?

I had this issue with my old '95 9C1 Caprice. The A/C was working great then one day i noticed it was blowing rather warm.Well the next day while driving i heard some really bad noise coming from under my hood.Turns out the A/C pulley bearings took a crap and my pulley was wabbling all around.

I ended up deleting the whole A/C system vs buying and installing a new pulley and bearings.I was looking for an excuse to ditch my A/C system anyway,so i was not upset lol.

Well I tried adding new coolant, did nothing.

I got a kit from the store, first I checked the pressure on the running system, it came up as being right where it was supposed to be, telling me that I shouldn't actually be adding any, this also means there are no leaks, right? I gave it a few shots anyway as it was on the low range given the outside temps. After that was done I tried out the system again and still nothing.

The compressor clicks on, sounds like it is doing it's job, but the air is not being cooled.

Your inside blower is working properly, right?

Yup, all the settings work, air blows out as hard as it always has, the circulate / outside air button works, and switching it to the defrost setting also automatically turns the compressor on.

Anyone have any guesses or should I just bite the bullet and take it to a garage?

Took it to a local person everyone uses, she found contaminant in the system which was most likely from me trying to refill it. She pulled a vacuum on it for half an hour and it kept the pressure completely. She then drained the whole system and refilled it. So far it's been working with no problem. I'll be taking it back next week for her to check for small leaks under the UV light.

How much did that run you? I may have to do something similar next summer, my AC sucked this summer.

I dont see how you could get contamination into a sealed, pressured system..?

My guess is... The freon was nearly 7 years old, may have leaked some and needed replaced..
