2004 Chevrolet Impala

PostPosted: Tue Sep 15, 2009 11:14 pm    Post subject:  Overkilled... Reply with quote

I've read some recent posts about some issues surrounding overkill - here's my story.

I received my PCM from overkill - pretty quickly too (normal ~7-10 days). I took it pretty easy the first drive, but everything was seeming fine. Next day I get P0135 (as I've read from some others). Everything else seemed great - just an annoying CEL P0135.

Some research pointed to some possible wiring changes on the O2 for the 2004 SS, so I emailed Will, received quick response stating that he heard of that on an 04 Monte, and that I could send him my stock PCM and he'd tune that and even pick up the shipping. Being paranoid that possibly some other wiring changes could be in the PCM, I took him up on the deal.

Couple weeks later (he took vacation) I get my stock but tuned PCM back and things seemed to be great (no P0135). However, some of the other 'features' which worked on the original PCM he sent don't work on my tuned stock PCM. For example, my fans don't seem to run until temp hits 200. There's no fans running on key-off, and I have no 2nd gear starts. Blows my mind - hopefully nothing else is missing...

I received notification of my core refund, but no shipping refund as promised. I tried contacting him about the other issues, really just trying to understand why this would be happening (anyone else know?), but no response (I did just read he was having email problems though).

Anyway - this is more just to share my experience, and also to see if anyone has any explanations as to the loss of features I now have. Something with the 04's? I don't want to keep emailing Will and become annoying - really don't care about the shipping refund either - just want to understand what should/will/won't work. Any other '04 SS with Overkill experience?

Yes but 100 emails is enough to piss me off. Hes not going to write to say "Hi". He has a good rep here and hasnt ripped anyone off. So give him time. I have an Overkill PCM on the Indy.
Communication is the key....on a top swap or major repair, not really needed on a off the shelf PCM.

Be patient guys. All you have to do is look around the other forums to figure out what is going on. Will ships orders and responds in the order things are received. He isn't in the business of ripping people off and his product is the s**t... I'm ordering one next month and could care less if it takes a month to get it.

I'm not so concerned about waiting - my questions are about the missing features. While they aren't the end of the world features (although I would like them), maybe some other things are missing as well.

What's strange is that those features worked on the original PCM he sent that kept throwing the P0135. Now that he tuned my factory PCM, the CEL is gone, but so are the features so I'm wondering if there's something else (important) that's missing. Or maybe just a mistake was made with the tune? Or the '04 PCM doesn't "allow" certain things?

Any other '04's running an Overkill on here? Would be good to get some comparison info.

HotSauce - do you have the features I mentioned that I don't -- can you start in 2nd gear from a stop, for example? Do your fans run after key-off (assuming a hot engine)? These are all mentioned in the documentation which came with the PCM -- these were working fine for me with the original one he sent, but that was throwing the CEL...

I'm just looking for a comparison before I ask Will about this again.
