This is the second rear view mirror on my car, both auto dimming (w/o onstar), the first one came originally with the car, it last for about 6 years, I replace it when it stop dimming as supposed to, last week this one started doing the same thing, clouds all around the mirror, is there something wrong with my car, or is it just the mirror?

Well, I don't have tinted windows, I don't know if this affects the mirror or not, but my mirror is not dimming completely, the center does but that's the only part that dim as supposed to.

OK, the auto dim feature doesn't work anymore, I have just installed a non auto dim mirror, it was from an impala that my cousin used to own, meanwhile I'm still looking for another auto dim mirror.

Those autodiming mirrors use what is basically a LCD screen (like you would find in a calculator or such), which turns darker when current is applied to it. Often times the liquid (in the liquid crystal display) leaks or otherwise becomes compromised, and then your mirror won't dim any more. The biggest culprit seems to be heat. I know in Arizona where I am, those auto dimming mirrors only last a few years if the car is parked outside.

Here in Tx. is very hot too, but my car is indoors all the time rarely it is parked outside, and it only has 37K miles, I was thinking to buy a gentex auto dim mirror, but I don't know if it will fit the car, since the original is donnelly.

the glass is 2 peices of glass with a fluid between the two. if its gets too hot the fluid does burst the seal and leak out. the donelly mirrors that we have are very sensitive. gentex is a better brand. look on ebay for the gentex mirrors from a olds intrigue with led map lights and compas those were the best ones intalled in a wbody car

yea I'm sure. I shinned an led light and it and saw the magic happen.

And for the bubbles clounding around the mirror, I too have the same issue as stated in the topic I have already created about 2 days ago.

Nice mirror, it does look nicer than the donnelly, here is 94-96 impala SS mirror I found, now I'm trying to make a decision between the tahoe, and this one.
