I have a 2000 Impala I just got and it didn't have a key fob. I got an extra laying around and went to the locksmith and he could not program it. I don't know much about the car but it does have power windows and locks. I just thought that if it had power locks I could have a key fob. Is that not the case?

I think BBE knows the RPO code for keyless entry. He could tell you and you could look on the SPD label on your trunk lid or door jam. You could also look through the radio menu and see if there's an option for programming the remotes. If not, then it might not have it.

Also, are you sure you're using the right part number remote? Just because it looks the same as an Impala remote doesn't mean it can work.

Just on the subject of Correct Remotes for the Impala, I also found a newer style remote that works on Impalas. Laughing

Only a 3 button one though, Added the trunk button my self (Has the Circuitry, just not the rubber button):

The locksmith looked on the radio didn't find anything. The locksmith said I had the right fob he even got another and that didn't work either so I would say I'm SOL.

http://impalahq.naioa.com/HowTo/Keyless_Entry.html

some base models did not have keyless entry. here is a article on how to add it.

the other option is to buy a aftermarket system. but avoid ones that have alarms built into them. i hate alarms. regret the one i put into my van so much

I have the stock radio yes with am/fm cd player. I also have a parts car that came with keyless entry. Do you think I can take everything I need out of that car and make it work?
