Granted, they're not all quite "mainstream," but why not just perform in New Orleans?
plain and simple, they do it for the money and recognition. we have the same type of thing here in chillicothe. there is really nothing here, yet we get all these artists/groups that come here and do shows like twista, bone thugs n harmony, paul wall, kiss army, tech n9ne, vanilla ice (yes, that vanilla ice. ), david allen coe, afroman, saving jane, bizzy bone....
they could all just as easily go to columbus, cincy, dayton, or athens and put on bigger shows, but i thinks its mainly to get the name back out there and get whatever cash they can. plus, some people like to play for the small crowds, too.

Some of them my be performing in NOLA right before or after, and hitting that as another venue. Its far enough away, that if they're not playing Baton Rouge or Lafayette, they'll bring in those crowds. I don't think its a big venue, especially judging from the photos.
But if you notice, its a lot of second tier bands that have lost popularity and cover bands. If you look at some the band schedules, they're not playing any major cities, lots of small clubs. So I think those bands are playing there because its the only place they can play.
