Just a question for the original poster of this thread, is that picture you have up the low side service port?? I am having the same issues with mine (ie would love to recharge the AC) and am a touch clueless as to it all. I believe I have the same model car as you 2000 LS 3.8 V6...any help would be greatly appreceated! thanks!

Yes that is the low side service port to refill freon at. just plug it in and charge away.

Should I just attach the can of r134a to this port? Do I need to remove or do anything before that?

And anything to be aware of?

Thanks.

you need a quick connect hose that goes to the can. The car needs to be running so dont burn your self with exhaust heat. turn you a/c full blast. Read the can instructions some are diff

Thanks. I will go for this. For this V6 engine, is the hose from the can long enough to reach the port?

I always wondered why they let people buy refrigerant for cars without a license. You can't do that for refrigerant in anything else.

If you're adding refrigerant, did you ever wonder where the missing refrigerant was going?

you'll probably just have to hold the can near it and what whitelightnin04MC said... if u don't know where it's going it's a leak somewhere which not gonna lie u should check to see if it's a big leak...

Thanks. Can the freon (R134a) last forever? For example, my car is 9 years old with 150k miles on it.

it'll last as long as much as the leak leaks... if u have a leak it depends on the severity of the leak obviously...

The freon should last at least 7 year before needing a recharge..Unless there is a leak........

Nothing last forever (including people). But shengang, I'd say let a pro handle the fill for you.
