Could anybody mwho is mechanically inclined with a didgital camera do an illustrated whrite up on how to replace the Hubs, and/or replace the wiring harness. this problem is obviously an epidemic and i cant ever find some good clear details. i dont have the $500 to spend on fixing my car at the dealership but i have the $200 to buy it and do it myself. Anyone who does this will be doing a great public servie, and if i have no problems after following your instructions ill give u $10. ould i also request that this topic be a sticky....thank you.

Problems with my car goes as follows:

Whenever im turning i hear a "HMMMMMMMM" sound constantly
Sometimes when i hear the HMMMM" the "Service traction" warning comes on.
Last but not least, sometimes when i brake i feel lke its locking and unlocking very rapidly, almost like a crunch but the rotors are fine.

First things first, take it somewhere and have them read the codes from the ABS module. That will tell you for sure what is wrong.

Make sure they can read codes from the ABS module, not just normal DTC codes (it takes a different type of reader). Most brake shops and the dealers should be able to.

i have replaced my front and rear hubs on my 01 impala and it fixed that annoying problem for me! if you still need help i would be happy to walk you through it. i dont have any pictures just the experience of doing it myself.
What year is your car? as long as it is 2005 or older i can help you, ive never looked at the 06 or newer. But if i can help i would be happy too!

I realize that this is an old thread... but the information seemed to be just what the Doctor ordered..

...BUT... a 36MM socket is too big for my base (non ABS... maybe that is the difference?) 2004's front hub nut. Looks like a 33mm... I am taking back the 36mm tomorrow!

I don't want it to see like I am crapping on the write up though... it is a VERY detailed write up and and think it is great. Just know that there WILL be and ARE some differences between the GP and Impala wheel bearing replacement procedure.
