I just traded my Ford Ranger for a '04 LS. The first thing I noticed that stuck out like a sore thumb is the radio reception. It's terrible! My girlfriend has the same year car and hers is fine. When I do a seek only about two stations come on and when I tune to a station it has intermittent static. The only difference is that she has the CD only and I have the CD/cassette radio. Is this a common problem?

UPDATE: If you are having trouble getting AM or FM reception in your Impala and it's nothing obvious like the antenna wire being unplugged, then this part from gmpartsdirect.com will probably fix the problem. It is located behind the C-pillar trim on the driver's side. Milwaukee_01impala posted a picture of it on page 2 of this thread.

Tint will affect. Also, a broken line in the rear window defroster can affect it, I hear.

could be an exposed or broken antenna wire - look at the top of your rear window where the antenna is located....or a loose connection wire

Search was used before post and no help. No, the windows are not tinted. Where are the connectors?

The dealership just called and said they are replacing the antenna which I assume means they are replacing the back window. I'll update this thread when I get my car back tomorrow to let everyone know if that fixed it.

My reception sucks, and that's fine with me. I NEVER listen to the radio, because all they play is crap. I swear, there are 4 types of stations around me, Oldies, Religious, Country, Top 40... I just rock my iPod. Nothing like having all my favorite songs at my fingertips.

Picked up my car from the dealer today and the radio reception is a difference of night and day. They said they were replacing the antenna which I thought meant they were replacing the back glass, but that wasn't it. They replaced a part called the power radio antenna module and that totally fixed it. Here is the info from gmpartsdirect if anyone is interested...

wonder where that part is located

lets see, stevens point; 94.5,95.5,96.3?,97.1,97.9,99.9,101.7?,106.5. There really is no central wisconsin rock station either and 94.1 only goes to about ******/[plainfield.

According to the invoice it says...

"Checked coaxial cable from radio back to antenna module and it is not shorted or open. Removed LF(?) rear quarter trim and checked antenna module and found it to be faulty. Reinstalled trim and verified repair. Seek now picks up several more stations than before repair."

I think it would. Apparently the module is a signal booster to compensate for the in-glass antenna so I would say it would fix the issue on aftermarket as well.
